Unconventional oil is the largest oil resource on the planet
In the United States there are over 400,000 stripper wells that produce less than 10 barrels per day. For most of these wells, over 70% of the original-oil-in-place (OOIP) is still in the resevoir.
Canadian oil sand resources produce over 1 million barrels of oil per day, but of this 1.7 trillion barrel resource, only 10% can be extracted through current strip mining methods.
In Utah, there is more recoverable oil shale (over 300 billion barrels) than exists in Saudia Arabia (280 billion barrels). When combined with Colorado and Wymoing there is an estimated 1.2 trillion barrels of recoverable oil.
